Introduction
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, internet has become an important service as more residents are working and learning from home. To assist, the Town of Caledon is offering households in areas with poor internet service a grant for $200.00 to purchase a temporary solution, such as a hotspot, to help meet their needs.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible, residents must:
reside in the Town of Caledon,
complete an internet speed test using the
Town of Caledon CIRA portal
that demonstrates internet speeds less than 25 megabytes per second (mbps) download speed and 5 megabytes per second upload speed.
after completing the test, residents must purchase a device and sign up for service through any Internet Service Provider (ISP) operating in Caledon and provide the receipt to the Town,
only one application per household will be accepted, and
eligible devices include hotspots, satellite dishes or similar technology from any internet service provider, but does not include fibre, mobile or smart phones. The device must be purchased prior to applying.
Guidelines
To complete the form, the following are required:
Applicant's name, phone number and email address
Property information such as municipal address
Applicant must complete a declaration that the device has not been purchased for the operation of a business, including a home-based business, and they have not been reimbursed for it through another method.
Additional document requirements. All uploaded documents must be saved in txt, pdf, doc, docx, png, jpg or jpeg format.
if electronic funds transfer is selected, a cheque marked void or a bank letter with the bank account information is required.
a screen capture of the speed test is preferred. If not provided, the date of a previous performed speed test will be required. Staff will look up the speed test using the applicants address and date of speed test.
a copy of proof of purchase of the device which includes an electronic or scanned paper copy of the receipt provided by the ISP. It must include the date purchased, address or individual on the account and device details.
The form should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You cannot save the form while you are in the process of completing it. The form will begin to time-out after 15 minutes. There is a warning and you are able to extend the time for another 15 minutes.
Please note: Incomplete applications will not be considered. The total size of all attachments is restricted to a maximum of 20 MB in size.
